Testimonials

“I enjoyed the workshop quite a bit. One of the areas I enjoyed was building a business and building a studio, especially the part about forming an LLC for … work that I do. It will be helpful for protection and income tax. And, I also enjoyed the part about the implicit bias. It really got me thinking about what could possibly be some of my own implicit biases. I had some interesting conversations with students afterwards and some faculty members who attended, discussing some of our own implicit biases. I found the whole thing helpful and useful.”

I really enjoyed my sessions with Prudence. She helped me recognize my personal, professional, and financial priorities. I believe the greatest advantage I received from her coaching was developing a solid and specific business plan for my small business. She guided me through my goals, taking into account not only the immediate future but long term plans as well. While most business coaching ends there, Prudence tied in work/life balance and made sure that I carved time out in my days for personal relationships while pursing a successful business.

Hi, I’m Prudence McDaniel, professional cellist, college educator, and private teacher for over 35 years. Now my career includes Life/Mindset, Entrepreneurship and Financial coaching, speaking, writing and online course creation in artistic entrepreneurship.

Music business has been a part of my world since I participated in a high school executive internship as assistant to the Executive Director of the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines (IA - where I grew up). I was introduced to understanding contracts and contract negotiations, budgeting, interviewing and hiring, personnel management, how boards work, and many other details of running a business, all while opening a concert hall. My work in that internship landed me a job and the distinction of becoming the youngest Assistant House Manager in the US, at the age of 17, for a 2,700-seat hall and the scheduling and management of a 125-person usher staff. Because I had the good fortune to experience the "other side" of the performance world at that young age, it was easier to make an informed decision about my career path.

Performing and teaching has given me a rich and fulfilling life that I treasure, and the business activities of serving on non-profit boards as treasurer and incorporating my quartet as an LLC and our community music school as a non-profit organization, obtaining 501(c)3 status, has kept me tied to my business and entrepreneurial roots.

In 2017 during a conversation with a former student who had just graduated with a degree in music education, I was made aware that while music business was being taught, not many courses were addressing entrepreneurship or, more to the point, solopreneurship - creation of private educational studios as home businesses. While many schools are beginning to add entrepreneurial components, they are still industry based (recording studios or non-profit schools). Many schools still do not have music business classes at all which would provide this information. I realized there was a gap which needed to be filled. It was also during this time that I began to be acutely aware of how deeply embedded implicit biases surrounding the arts and prosperity are embedded in society and even in us. Thus, my education and work as a coach, speaker and writer also began.

I am here to provide the tools to discover greater self-awareness and information so you can structure your business to serve yourself and the life you want to live while you serve humanity.
